Bartending as a career can be lucrative and extremely fun.

Today's bartenders are a breed apart, savvy and knowledgeable performers in a fast paced exciting environment. The bartender must know his way in, out and around his bar to avoid confusion and to save time and energy especially when he is catering to a party of a thousand people. You must be organized, knowing where things are and having access to them at a given notice. Welcome all of your customers as though you know them and introduce yourself.

A person that is responsible enough to cut off patrons and to monitor their activities while still having good time will work out perfectly as a bar tender. If you are on the bar blowing your whistle, I guarantee people will turn and look at you. A good memory is essential as a bartender. Bartenders should be in command of their work space, trash containers, and supply of glassware and beverages.

Upselling helps increase the bar's profits by having the bartender suggest upgrades to premium liquors, try more expensive mixed drinks or introduce them to new brands of higher margin liquor. A collins is a sour drink served with soda water or seltzer water and is in a tall glass. Punch is often served in cups or glasses that accompany the punch bowl. Bartending can get really hectic at times but you can not afford to slow down the pace, you will lose so much money if you do and tick a few people off, no doubt about that.

The Lowball is the opposite of the Highball and is a short drink of a spirit and is served with ice, soda, or water in a small glass. Competition bartending has allowed even the non competing bartenders to enjoy the benefits of the publics increased opinions of their chosen profession. So the attitudes toward bartending in general had to change to allow for the increased opinions toward the “sport” of flair bartending. Having the days off made it easy to look for another job and my income didn't suffer at all because I was bartending at night.

And most importantly, get the interviewer to like you. Bottom line it takes class, style, patiences and an excellent attitude.
